Discovery Lodge rests at the foot of Tongariro’s three active volcanoes, on ten acres of open land surrounded by wild, untamed nature. It’s a place where mountain air clears the mind, and the landscape feels both vast and personal — a rare pocket of peace in the heart of the Central Plateau.
While this role doesn’t come with a traditional paycheck, the rewards are pretty special! 🌿
You’ll enjoy comfortable chalet accommodation nestled in a stunning location, plus unlimited access to a breathtaking World Heritage National Park – your own personal backyard full of natural wonders. It’s the kind of “payment” that money can’t buy! 😊
The volunteer work is mostly outside, and includes tasks such as trimming bushes & trees, water blasting, painting, cleaning, gardening and any other similar chores we find.
It works out to 12 hours per week for the two of you, or 6 hours per person each week. How and when these hours are completed is flexible.
You’ll be staying in one of our Chalet Studios, perfectly positioned at the front of the property with sweeping views straight out to Tongariro’s volcanoes.
