Have Questions?

Where is Discovery ?

Discovery Lodge rests at the foot of Tongariro’s three active volcanoes, on ten acres of open land surrounded by wild, untamed nature. It’s a place where mountain air clears the mind, and the landscape feels both vast and personal — a rare pocket of peace in the heart of the Central Plateau.

What is the work ?

The work is housekeeping — but it’s far more than making beds. It’s about creating a space where people can breathe, rest, and feel at home after a day in the mountains. Every room you prepare, every detail you care for, helps craft an experience that lingers in memory long after guests leave. It’s hands-on work, yes, but with a quiet purpose: tending to the small things that make the big adventure possible.

How many hours are worked per week ?

Hours at Discovery Lodge vary with the rhythm of the seasons. Some weeks are full-on, bustling with activity; others are quieter, giving you space not only to catch your breath but also to explore the mountains, trails, and wild corners that surround us. It’s work that fits naturally with life in the high country.

Is accommodation provided ?

Yes — accommodation is provided in a private camping hut within our campground. It’s a simple, comfortable space to rest and recharge after your day’s work.

What is there to do when not working ?

When you’re not working, the playground is right outside the door. Discovery sits on the edge of a World Heritage National Park, with trails, peaks, rivers, and wild landscapes to explore — there’s easily four lifetimes of adventure waiting just beyond Discovery.
